Chapter 1: Are Prayers Ever Answered?
Pray, pray, pray! That is the constant refrain we hear daily from our parents, from our teachers, from the preachers, from our politicians, and even our friends.
From a very young age we have been asked to pray, we have been encouraged to pray and even commanded to pray. Prayer has been touted as the first resort, and the last resort, to solve all problems. So dear reader, let me ask you this:
“How has your own experience with prayer been so far? Have all your prayers been answered, regularly? Honestly, can you tell me, just how many of your prayers have been answered?”
As for me, I can say that almost none of my prayers were answered. Especially when I used the old-fashioned, ritualized form of prayers (both Hindu and Christian prayers). This brought out the questioning mind in me:
- Does God really answer our individual prayers?
- Is it even proper for God to accede to any one individual’s prayer, perhaps at the expense of another’s?
The above questions and more, are explored in detail in the book "Why Most Prayers are NOT Answered".
